Our 1.5 zero-stack reducer cups are the solution to a growing issue for downhill riders. Here's the scoop:
Our zero-stack reducer cups let you run an 1 1/8 internal style headset INSIDE your OnePointFive standard head tube. This allows several advantages over conventional or other conversion headsets.
The main advantage of our zero stack reducer cups is their lower stack height. Today's downhill forks are growing increasingly taller. A lower stack height allows you to fine tune your bar height, and allows for several other improvements. Advantage 2 is that, as we decrease stack height, we increase fork height adjustment as well. Advantage 3 has to do with the structural elements of your frame. Because load is transferred from your headset bearing directly through the reducer cup to the head tube, we see less of a chance of frame ovalization. This is due to the fact that the internal layout loads the headset cup more in compression and less in bending. Advantage 4 lies in that our internal reducer cups are made from 7075 T6! Worldwide, this is the strongest commercial aluminum in widespread use today, stronger than many steels, and almost twice as strong as the 6061 and 7005 aluminum used in most OnePointFive bicycle frames. What this means for you is that headtube ovalization is a thing of the past. Advantage 5 is that by mixing and matching standard and zero-stack lower headsets, you can alter head angle by about 1/2 degree.
For 2004, Iron Horse Bicycle Company has designed their high-end downhill frames to take advantage of the e.thirteen zero stack headset inserts and their benefits. The frames have head angles and headtube designs that take advantage of our zero-stack inserts for a low and comfortable front end. If you are the owner of one of these groundbreaking frames, congratulations!
