e.thirteen hires product development ninja

e.thirteen is proud to welcome product development engineer, Kristopher Wehage, to the team. Kris brings three and a half years of high end bicycle component design and engineering experience and a passion for bicycle riding and industrial design.

Having proven his design and engineering merits at FSA, Kris will work with e.thirteen founder and technical director Dave Weagle to develop a new line of cycling products. Dave had this to say about e.thirteen's newest team member, "I've admired Kris's ability to pick apart complex problems and visualize innovative solutions since we first met. Being that e.thirteen is such a tiny company, it's so important that we all work well together, and his laid back personality and ninja-like design skills, mixed with the fact that he rides his bike a load of miles each week make him a perfect fit for our team. We're really excited to have him on board!"

Kris's responsibilities at e.thirteen will include developing new technologies and products as e.thirteen prepares for a new era of the company's development. Kris will be working closely with e.thirteen's athletes and existing staff to refine current products and design new products outside of e.thirteen's existing product range.

"I've known the team at e.thirteen for a few years now and have a lot of respect for what they have accomplished. We've got a great team and I'm looking forward to stepping it up in the coming years," says Kris.

The rest of the e.thirteen team is excited to have Kris on board. He's already spent time at the east coast office getting up to speed and will be working full time from a remote office on the west coast.

Kris joined the Taipei show as his first public appearance as an e.thirteen employee; look for him and the rest of the e.thirteen crew at the Sea Otter Classic and other various events throughout the year.

From the crew at e.thirteen, welcome to the team Kris!

e.thirteen acquires Heim 3-Guide design

e.thirteen components is proud to announce the acquisition of Montara Design’s Heim product line and supporting IP portfolio. The addition of the Heim offerings helps to diversify the already strong e.thirteen product line.

Dave Weagle, president of e.thirteen had this to say, “We’re thrilled to bring the 3-Guide and Jon’s other designs into the e.thirteen family. We’ve long recognized the quality and performance of the Heim product, and its unique position in the marketplace. The timing to bring a more Cross Country and All-Mountain lightweight product into our line is perfect, and we’re excited to develop new designs that fall within the scope of the Heim patent portfolio. We are dedicated and able to carry on Heim’s tradition of quality, USA based manufacturing, and customer service. The fit is just perfect for us, we couldn’t be more excited!”

Jon Heim, founder of Montara MTB and designer of the 3-Guide added, “I could not be more stoked than to be working with Dave Weagle and the legendary e.thirteen components! They are well known innovators and fellow bike geeks. This is a true win-win situation – it frees me up to work on other projects and go in some new directions, and expands e.thirteen’s product line. They will be able to put a real sales and marketing effort behind the products, something I’ve never been able to do. It also gives them the intellectual property to expand their product lines.”

New designs incorporating e.thirteen’s Heim patent are planned to be released in the coming weeks. A sneak peek of the upcoming first offering, the lightweight 99 gram 3RS (3 Ring Security) is being released today.

Aftermarket Direct Mount Bashguards

e.thirteen Launches Aftermarket Direct Mount Bashguards For 2008

e.thirteen™ continues to push the envelope of product development with the release of more groundbreaking products for 2008. Today, e.thirteen is proud to announce the worldwide aftermarket availability of its direct mount bashguard technology.

Over the past several years, e.thirteen has worked in secret along with some of the world’s top riders to develop and refine their worldwide patent pending direct mount bashguard chainguide technology. After winning six (6!!) World Championships and being shaped through countless hours of analysis and testing, this new system is ready for release. The pioneering e.thirteen design attaches a “taco”™ bashguard directly to a chain retention system mounting plate. Eliminating the bashguard attached to the cranks reduces chain retention system weight, while offering the bash protection that racers need to compete. As of today, e.thirteen is the only company that currently has a public patent portfolio aimed at protecting direct mount bashguard chainguide technology. This innovative product was first made available in 2008 on complete bikes from a wide range of manufacturers, and as part of the lightweight and secure LG-1™ chain retention system.

Beyond the product launches for 2008, e.thirteen is delivering video content online through their YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/ethirteenvid). In addition to videos of their riders and contributions from videographers like Clay Porter and Don Hampton, mechanics and riders alike will be able to watch installation videos for all of e.thirteen’s chain retention systems.

Look out for more product release and racing news coming soon from e.thirteen. LG1 chain retention systems with direct mount tacos are available from participating distributors, and in several color options to match your bike. 2008 colors include black/clear, all black, and all white. New RPM Orange Limited Colorways LG-1 chain retention systems are also shipping from participating distributors, and additional videos will be added to the e.thirteen website and YouTube page on a regular basis.

e.thirteen video sponsorships

e.thirteen Announces Sponsorship of Two Videos For 2008

e.thirteen is proud to announce their collaboration with two major videos for the 2008 season. e.thirteen will be sponsoring Clay Porter's follow-up to the wildly successful "Between The Tape": "F1RST", which will be released in April of 2008. We will also be supporting Don Hampton's new movie, "Latitudes", which will also be released around the same time.

"We're ecstatic to be a part of both of these movies for 2008. Both Don and Clay have made tremendous contributions to the mountain bike community through their videos, and we are excited to support them and contribute to the development of their titles," said Aaron Lutze, e.thirteen's marketing director.

Don Hampton has been working on "Latitudes", which is a follow-up to the Chain Reaction series. Hampton spent the last two years working closely with Cannondale producing The Cut DVD "Sevenvision", which is currently being featured at the Banff Film Festival.

Hampton will be bringing back the favorites from the Chain Reaction series, as well as some fresh faces, like e.thirteen rider JD Swanguen. The "stable of knuckleheads" just returned from a successful trip to Utah, where riders like JD Swanguen, Wayne Goss, Chris and Nick VanDine threw down in front of DH Productions' new HD cameras.

"e.thirteen is one of the original east coast companies that has supported DH Productions and the Chain Reaction videos from day one. I'm definitely excited to have their continued support on the production of 'Latitudes'. 'Latitudes' is going to pick up where the Chain Reaction series left off—except the production quality is much higher now that we have an HD package in full effect," said Don Hampton.

Clay Porter's "Between The Tape" follow up, "F1RST", will be a hot title for 2008. Clay said, "I was so encouraged by the response to the docu-style movie format that I've decided to embark on the untold stories of the 2007 season, in the same way. Thanks to co-sponsors like e-thirteen Components, who have joined up with me for the first time this year, I'll be able to take my filmmaking to the next level. I am currently in the UK shooting with the Atherton family and we have some amazing things planned for their section."

Clay has been spanning the globe to create content for his upcoming movie, and will be working closely with e.thirteen to release exclusive sneak peaks leading up to the release of the full-length feature. In recognition of this partnership, e.thirteen is proud to release of the first of the sneak peaks, featuring e.thirteen athletes.

e.thirteen finishes strong in 2007

e.thirteen athletes finish strong in 2007

e.thirteen athletes crowded the podium once again for the final round of the 2007 Nissan UCI World Cup series in Maribor, Slovenia. Riders with e.thirteen chain retention systems faired extremely well this year—despite seeing some of the worst weather conditions in recent history on the circuit. e.thirteen product stood up to the weather and muddy courses, helping make the world's best ride even better. In 2007, riders aboard e.thirteen products took nine World Cup victories, two overall World Cup titles and five World Championship titles.

Sam Hill and Sabrina Jonnier locked up the elite men's and women's titles at the last World Cup of the year. Sabrina finished up in Maribor in sixth place, which retained her lead over second place finisher (and second place overall) Tracy Moseley by 130 points. Aside from her finish in Maribor, Sabrina hasn't finished in less than third place in a World Cup event this year, taking two wins at Vigo and Mont Sainte Anne. Sabrina also claimed the World Champion title last weekend in Fort William, Scotland, successfully defending her title.

Sam Hill topped off his incredible season with another win in Slovenia. Sam snapped up the top spot in qualifying, then continued to own it in Maribor by finishing two seconds ahead of the rest of the men's elite DH field. Of the top ten elite men DH riders, seven of the ten were using chain devices—and five of those seven were running e.thirteen chain retention systems.

2007 was Sam Hill's first World Cup overall title in the elite category. He achieved this goal with total authority, finishing overall with 1057 points, well beyond the rest of the men's field (Matti Lehikoinen finished in second place overall with 673 points). The 2007 season has been filled with some amazing races and stunning victories for Sam and the rest of the e.thirteen athletes.

Rachel Atherton also ended the season on a high note. After suffering a broken arm earlier this year at Vigo, she was able to come back strong toward the end of the race season to take first place in the women's elite DH race in Maribor. Rachel was joined on the podium by another e.thirteen athlete, Tracy Moseley, who finished in second place in Maribor, and overall in the World Cup series.

Mountaincross saw multiple members of the e.thirteen squad on the podium in Slovenia, with Mio Suemasa in second place for the women and Dan Atheron in third place for men's. Mio Suemasa's second place finish in Maribor was good enough to bring her into third place overall for women's mountaincross. Jill Kintner ended up with second place overall after a tough crash and a fifth place finish in Maribor. Jared Graves and Gee Atherton also stacked up strong overall finishes for the World Cup series with third and fifth place standings, respectively.

e.thirteen would like to congratulate all of their team members for an amazing season aboard our chain retention systems.

e.thirteen cleans up Ft Bill

e.thirteen Cleans Up In A Muddy Fort William

If running an e.thirteen chain retention system on your bike wasn't the ticket to a podium finish, then our only other guess would have to be those patriotic skinsuits everyone was wearing. E.thirteen riders blew away the field in Ft. William, Scotland this past weekend, with record-breaking crowds in attendance.

e.thirteen bagged five of the six available gold medals, as well as a handful of silver and bronze medals. In the elite categories, e.thirteen athletes took the top three positions in men's downhill!

Ruaridh Cunningham, one of e.thirteen's newest recruits and the new Junior World Champion, has had an amazing season as a junior racer. He grabbed the junior win in Vigo, while placing tenth overall amongst the elite class. It's been an intense battle between Ruaridh and Josh Bryceland for the overall junior leader's jersey, but after his commanding win in Ft William, it appears that Ruaridh will have a great chance of clinching the Junior points leader jersey.

Congratulations also go to JD Swanguen, who placed only two seconds behind Ruaridh, which was good enough for the silver medal! Swanguen made his fellow Americans proud by being the highest placing American in the downhill race.

The men's elite downhill podium was chock full of e.thirteen athletes—the top three riders in the field were all running e.thirteen chain retention systems, a necessity for the inclement weather that came down on Scotland. Sam Hill continued his reign and properly defended his world title, using the muddy course to his advantage for his second elite world title.

Behind Sam Hill was Fabien Barel, who gave Sam quite the scare with his split time. Barel was in fine form, even after crashing in practice on the course. He rode with confidence and strength during the final and took home the silver medal, less than one second behind Sam—but over five seconds faster than the rest of the field!

Gee Atherton grabbed third place behind Barel, and his sister Rachel was also able to make a podium appearance in the women's elite downhill race. The women's downhill class was also dominated by e.thirteen athletes: Sabrina Jonnier took the win, followed by Rachel Atherton. Both girls were a full eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Sabrina's win capped the sixth World Championship title for e.thirteen's worldwide patent pending "taco" internal bashguard design.

Jill Kintner also picked up her third world title for mountaincross. Despite the fact that Jill crashed hard on her arm during practice and was barely able to hold onto the handlebars, she dug deep in the finals and took the win. As reigning world champion, Jill has one more tough race ahead of her at the World Cup finals in Maribor, as she leads Anneke Beerten by a margin of only 40 points.

Jurg Meijer rounded out the men's mountaincross podium with a third place finish. Jurg's bronze medal secured podium appearances by e.thirteen athletes on every single podium at the World Championships.

French rider Floriane Pugin snapped up the women's junior world title by a margin of over 29 seconds! From every angle, this past weekend in Fort William was a total success for riders using e.thirteen product.

e.thirteen would like to congratulate all of their athletes for a stellar weekend at the world championships. Congratulations for our five athletes who are now World Champions, and congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend and represented their country with pride.

e.thirteen would also like to take this opportunity to send their best wishes to Tara Llanes who was hospitalized after a crash at the Jeep event last week. There is a website being set up to help Tara and we encourage everyone to visit it and encourage Tara in her healing process: http://www.tarallanesroadtorecovery.com/
